Lewis Hamilton is the darling of F1 and, as he proved at the Monaco Grand Prix, storming to victory in a rain-soaked race, his driving skills are phenomenal.

The same cannot be said, however, for his Dad. Evidently, Lewis did not learn all he knows from his Father, whose own car control evidently leaves much to be desired.

Case in point: a quiet, English country lane, a grassy verge, a big hedge and a $425K Porsche Carrera GT that's plowed straight through said hedge.

There is no doubt that the car is extremely powerful and extremely fast but how Mr. Hamilton managed to spin out of control on a straight road is a bit beyond us.

'This is my first crash in almost 30 years and it had to happen in someone else's car,' he said. 'Thankfully the only thing hurt was the car, and a bush fence - for which I am extremely sorry.'

The Carrera GT sports German license plates, so we're unsure to whom it belongs but we're fairly sure they won't be too happy with the outcome of Hamilton Sr.'s drive. Daily Mail

You know the old joke, what's the last thing to go through a bug's mind as it hits the windshield? It's ass. Well, apparently this is what the automotive equivalent of that joke looks like.

Note to self: avoid Chinese trucks if ever in that neighborhood...

We're reckoning that the driver of this Z06 has had better days. Snapped on the back of a low-loader, no doubt on its way to an automotive funeral parlor somewhere, there's something rather sad about seeing such a great car in such a sorry state.

We're thinking a spin was involved, given the amount of damage to so many areas of the car. But whatever happened, seems the cockpit's intact, which bodes well for the driver.

Shame we can't say the same for the car. R.I.P. Z06. You will be missed. AutoSpies

In a scene straight out of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", a Sydney guy had to make the phone call any kid dreads: that the 'great idea' of borrowing your father's limited edition F360 Stradale has not gone according to plan.

Apparently the car had been speeding (ya think?!) and then ended its run wrapped around a lamp post, an ignominious demise for any car. Ironically, the accident occurred on 'Batman Avenue'...although no super hero was on hand to save the young man from having to call Daddy and explain what happened.

The passenger was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver was unhurt, save a battered ego, although we're unsure as to what fate awaited him at home...

Kovalainen F1 Crash

04.28.2008

F1 racing is some of the most exciting racing in the world...so long as there's some good overtaking. While the 2008 Barcelona Grand Prix over the weekend had some fairly good dicing between the cars, the real excitement came when Heikki Kovalainen's Mercedes McLaren left the track at an extremely high rate of speed.

A suspected front left rim failure sent the Finn hurtling across a gravel pit and straight into the tire wall. Thankfully, after an extended extrication process, Heikki was stretchered off, waving to the crowd. No injuries have been reported, although he did stay in hospital overnight. Jalopnik

Alas, unlike the Lotus Esprit from "For Your Eyes Only", this stunt was purely unintentional and has resulted in the $200k+ Aston Martin DBS, that's being used in the current James Bond movie, to be well and truly demolished.

Stunt driver Fraser Dunn, 29, plowed through a railing and took a nose dive into Lake Garda, Italy while shooting scenes for the latest 007 installment, "The Quantum of Solace".

Amazingly, despite the roof being completely caved in, he was able to extricate himself from the car and swim to shore. Unfortunately, it may now be emerging that Mr. Dunn is not, in fact, a stunt man but, rather, an engineer. Which would better explain how the car ended up wheels-up and underwater. BBC Video

British police had an action-packed night recently in the pursuit of a stolen Bentley Continental GT. Three police cars took chase after spotting the supercar hurtling along a road through the New Forest in Burley, Hampshire.

Surprisingly, the two 17-year old girls and one 15-year old boy turned out to be not overly-skilled drivers and, in trying to evade the cops, managed a cunning maneuver that left the Bentley wheels-up in a ditch.

Alas, following close behind, the first police car was damaged by the resultant debris, the second police car then smashed into the first one and, gotta love it, the third car took evasive action...and careened off the road.

The first two cars sustained minor injuries, the third 'serious damage'. Some of the coppers are a bit banged up, too, but the 3 hoons in the Bentley walked away (presumably in cuffs) with only scratches.

You know what it's like, you're driving along at a nice pace, road's pretty open, techno beat is pumping in the car and then, out of nowhere, everything gets slippery.

The action happens at about 52 seconds in...

A news story out of Edmonton, Canada did not end well for a semi-truck driver. Apparently the driver suffered a diabetic episode and drove 20km down a highway on the wrong side of the road. Amazingly, he didn't hit any oncoming traffic but eventually hit a central guard rail and the truck toppled off the overpass, onto train tracks below and burst into flames.

And, of course, a local motorist had their video camera rolling. YouTube Read More
